International Staffing
Although there are several techniques used to staff employees, international staffing has somewhat of a more drawn out approach when it comes to staffing employees within the United states as well as staffing employees to another country. One of the unique challenges when it comes to international staffing, is that staffing internationally is very costly. When considering hiring international employees, there must be considerations such as work permits or visa’s, for employees and potential employees to work within the United States, or employees of the United States working within another country (expatriates).
When considering to hire internationally, from within both aspects, the United States faces the challenges of training methods, because either the employees have to come to the United States, or employees from the United States have to go to another country for proper training procedures. However, when another country is considering hiring internationally, they must consider things such as training methods as well. One of the most important things involved within international staffing, is that all parties (host and home countries) must learn each other’s countries. They (expatriates) must receive intensive training such as, cultural diversities and differences, negotiation tactics, business practices, everyday living, and every other aspect of working and living successfully within another country.
Another challenge in my opinion is that for foreigners, they have training facilities in there countries, which train their employees beginning at early ages; therefore giving them advantages over United States employees who begin their training at a set age. In addition, foreigners normally recruit employees based on family ties, social status, language and common origin vs. the United States recruiting employees based on merit.
